Since 1981, Big Apple Circus has been a New York City holiday staple in Lincoln Center. The show sets itself apart from other performances with its intimate one ring atmosphere. This favors European circuses with one act at a time as opposed to traditional American shows that have multiple performances occurring simultaneously. To keep the show fresh, a new theme is designed each year in collaboration with multiple designers and creative directors from the city. For their 40th Anniversary Show, the circus decided to completely refresh their image. They reached out to our team at Admark Graphics to update their fleet of trailers and food carts before the start of the season.

The Challenge
In preparation for the circus relaunch, Big Apple Circus needed help refreshing their outdated vehicles with their new branding. They have trailers that are over 20 years old that the circus wanted to look brand new again. Big Apple wanted to make a statement on opening day with their entire fleet rebranded for the year’s tour. This process included removing existing graphics, cleaning each unit, making necessary repairs, repainting, and then installing the new graphics.

Strongly focused on design layouts that would work best for each type of trailer, using the best products for the longevity of the graphics.
Staying Focused
An additional point of focus was to keep their logo as large as possible while staying legible between windows and doors for brand awareness after the refresh.
Best Practices
A key recommendation from our strategists was to keep the logos off the seams and windows to avoid wear on easily damaged areas. The goal was to prevent the need for repairs and to keep the graphics looking their best.
After Admark
Big Apple Circus was in awe of how the graphics refresh transformed their fleet. This project was one of the key catalysts to a successful start to their touring season. Since the fleet rebrand was so successful, Big Apple is continuing to add graphics to previously unmarked units along with promotional banners and branded fencing material.
